Carmela DeLuca, age 89, longtime resident of Milford and beloved wife to the late Salvatore DeLuca, passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Gaylord Hospital.  Born on August 2, 1923 in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore and Teresina Regasto Ombres.  Carmela was one of the proud founders of the Subway Restaurant chain. In the early days of Subway, Carmela worked in the first store in Bridgeport, CT, was known for hosting the weekly Subway planning meetings around her kitchen table. She was a well-respected officer and director of the company.

She is survived by her son Fred DeLuca and his wife Elisabeth of Orange and Ft. Lauderdale, FL; her daughter, Suzanne Greco and her husband Gary of Woodbridge; grandchildren, Jonathan DeLuca and his wife Ana of FL.; Gabriella and Jacqueline Greco of Woodbridge and cherished great grandchildren, Raquel, Eva and Sofia.  She is also survived by her siblings; Lucy DeLuca of Milford, Louise Scotti, Salvatore Ombres and Joseph Ombres and Veronica Lee all of NY as well as many loving nieces and nephews.  In addition to her husband, Carmela was predeceased by her brother Frank Ombres and her sister Mary Ombres.  The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude and thanks to Linda Miranda, Brenda Mateo, Lillian Sepulveda, Kimberly Rivas and Aida Rosado for their love, compassion and dedication in their care of Carmela.
