Carmel Stella (Rael) Romero passed away Thursday, July 13th, 2023, after a brief fight with cancer. Carmel was born July 1st, 1939, in Cruzville, New Mexico, to Martin and Precila Rael being one of ten children. TAs eldest daughter, she took on many responsibilities at a young age developing her indomitable will and thirst for education.
Carmel married (Patrick Romero-deceased) and moved to Albuquerque NM. She thrived in the “big city”, finding a rewarding career with the State of New Mexico. But her biggest source of joy came from her family. Carmel’s daughters, Patricia Carol (Jones) and Roberta (Chiappone) who she raised to be strong, independent women, instilling in them the values of perseverance, compassion, and the importance of education. As a devoted mother, she encouraged them to pursue their dreams, providing unwavering support and guidance.
In her role as grandmother, Carmel truly shone. Her grandchildren, Alex, Kathleen Carmel (KC), Frankie, Alle and Ella were the lights of her life, she took great joy in being an integral part of their growth and happiness.
Carmel was devoted to the Catholic church and believed deeply in helping others, usually in her quiet supportive way, providing help whenever she could.
Carmel is survived by daughters, Patricia Carol (Romero) Jones, husband David, and Roberta (Romero) Chiappone, husband, Frank, five grandchildren; and brothers, Daniel, Bobby, Pablo, Martin, Eddie; and sisters, Betty (deceased) Lucia, Linda, and Lourdes. She leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and great friends.
