Carlton Edward Mebane Senior was born July 11, 1942 in Alamance County to James Howard Mebane and Thelma Gilchrist Mebane. Following a brief illness, quietly in the comforts of his own home, while surrounded by his loving family he gently passed into eternal life on January 24, 2022.
Carlton grew up in Alamance County with his family and attended the Alamance County school systems and graduated from Graham High School. Following his high school graduation, he was drafted into the United States Army and served valiantly. He was married to the love of his life Ava Chaplin. Carlton and Ava were devoted to each other and shared a love and made a comfortable home for their family.
It goes without mentioning that Carlton was a devoted and dedicated member of Johnson Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Whatever needed to be done officially or unofficially, Carlton was there no matter what. He served as the president of the Ushers board, Superintendent of the Sunday school and served on the Stewart Board as well. He was also responsible for maintaining the churches landscape.
He leaves loving and cherished memories to his devoted and loving wife of 58 years Ava C. Mebane; children, Bishop Carlton Edward MeBane, II and Cory Lemont MeBane; two grandchildren: Carlton E. MeBane, III and Joshua MeBane; three great grandchildren Grace MeBane, Micha MeBane and Elias MeBane; one brother Alonzo Mebane and two sisters Deborah Mebane Hester and Teresa Watts as well as many devoted loving nieces nephews relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two children: Carlton Delano Mebane and Yvonne MeBane Soneé and siblings: James Howard Mebane, Kenneth Mebane, Howard Mebane and Tamara Mebane Lawrence.
