Carlos Dwayne Smith was born in Exeter, California and passed away peacefully in Visalia, California on July 7, 2022 at 68 years old surrounded by his family. Carlos is survived by his wife Marilynn of 49 years; his daughters Shelly and Christina; his son Gary; his son-in-law Mark; his daughter-in-law Katie; his four beautiful grandchildren Disnie, Atlantis, Owen and Sophie; his mother Lucille; his sister Regina; and countless extended family and friends.

Carlos literally built a legacy through his construction business in Smith Concrete Construction, through which he shared the fruits of his labor with hundreds of Tulare County contractors and homeowners. He later switched careers to truck driving where he continued his career with Knight Transportation.

Carlos had an enormous personality but was never fussy. Some of his favorite moments were surprise Disneyland trips, night swims, eating cold hotdogs on a fishing boat, soap opera binges with his wife, and Skip-Bo tournaments to decide whose turn it was to do the dishes. He had an incredible way of finding beauty in simplicity and although he had a quiet and humble demeanor, he was magnetically joyful, respected fully for his incredible work ethic and perseverance, and loved deeply for his tenderness. Carlos was a family man who loved unconditionally and would do anything to make you feel completely safe and a little silly.

Next time you are cracking open a cold one, snagging your line at the bottom of a lake, making funny faces at a camera, judging your grandkids’ pool flips, experiencing new destinations with your spouse, building something extraordinary with your hands, or bear-hugging your “kiddos,” his family asks that you think of all the wonderful life lived by Carlos.
