My Loving husband of 73 years went peacefully and is now at peace in Heaven with our Lord. Carlos was born and raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Carlos was preceded in death by his loving parents Andres Martinez and Filomena Brito, his younger brother Glibert and Cordeilia (Cordy) our beautiful daughter, with her infectious smile. Included in loving memory is Adam, Grandson and my husband’s Godparents, Vicente Brito and Petrita Todesques Brito.
He met the love of his life Maria Ruth Garcia de Alire and they were married on July 26, 1947 at Cristo Rey Catholic church a mere 73 years ago. We are blessed to have 3 children Cordeilia (Cordy, deceased), Carlos (Coco) Jr. and Christopher (Bobbie, deceased). In addition, 4 grandchildren, Carlos Martinez III, Adam (deceased), Stephen, A.G., Kristiana and Phil McClanahan. Great grandchildren, Adam Martinez Miller, Stephen and Bryhanna, Josiah Martinez y Ortiz y Pino and Irene and Simon Mc Clanahan.
Carlos joined the Army Air Corps in 1946 after which his career sky-rocketed. He was the Democratic Party Chairman of Santa Fe County, Two Term County Commissioner, Director of States Human Rights Commission, and retired from Southern Union Gas Company after 25+ years of dedicated service. Among his several accomplishments, he was selected as one of the 10 People Who Made a Difference; Sponsored by The Santa Fe New Mexican, a member of the Coloniales de Santa Fe; a local dance group preserving various dance styles throughout the development of Santa Fe and its environs, the Union Protectiva; The Cursillo Movement and La Sagrada Familia. He is survived by his Loving sister Mary Fances Lopez, brother Florencio and sister-in-law Louise Martinez.
A very special “Thank You” to the Ambercare staff; Stephanie, Mark, Jenifer and Pedro; and to our Special daughter-in-law Nora Martinez and Cristina Aaras. Included are Kurt A. Sommers, Ray Montoya and Jeannie Bustamante, and Dr. Joshua Brown and staff. Carlos had many nephews and nieces, as well as God children, Thank All of You!
