Carlie was born on December 19, 1926 and passed away August 3, 2014 at her home in Meridian, Idaho. She was the youngest of five daughters born to George and Mabel Brashears who were early pioneers in the Eagle, Idaho area. Carlie and her family moved to Wilder where she attended grade school and graduated from Wilder High School in 1945.
Soon after graduation, Carlie moved to Boise to attend Boise Secretarial School. While there she met and married Robert J. Baldwin on May 1, 1947. She and Bob owned and operated Boise Cyclery for several years. They sold the bike shop and started Baldwin Lock and Key, a company that still bears their name after nearly 30 years. Both retired in 1985 to see and enjoy the countryside in their RV.
Carlie loved the outdoors and was a competitive bowler and golfer. She and Bob held Charter Memberships in both Shadow Valley and Eagle Hills golf courses. They enjoyed building a summer home near Cascade and spent their weekends and spare time fishing and waterskiing there while their two kids, Patrick and Becky, were growing up. Seeking a warmer winter climate they moved to Deming, NM in 1988.
After Bob’s passing in 2005 Carlie became very active in the Home Owners Association in her neighborhood. Carlie moved to Yerington, NV in 2009 to be near her daughter Becky Freeland after learning of some serious medical issues, and in 2012 she and Becky returned to the Boise area so she could be closer to her son Pat.
Carlie was a devout Christian, devoted wife, loving mother, and a dog lover. Her quick wit and free spirit were with her to the end. She will be missed by her friends, her daughter Becky Freeland of Kuna, her son and daughter-in-law Patrick and Leslie Baldwin of Meridian, and her faithful dog Goldie.
