Carla Sue (O’Neal) Smith, 78, died Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at Franciscan Hospital, Indianapolis. She was born on December 23, 1943, in Rushville, Indiana, to John Edward O’Neal and Emma L. (McGuffey) O’Neal.
She attended Howe High School, Indianapolis. She married Everett Guy Smith on December 23, 1959. They had 6 children: Jeanne, Jerry, Jim, Jon (Terri), Judy, Jennifer (Jeff) McDaniel, 17 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren with another arriving in July. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed taking them on trips, local adventures, and having fun-filled sleepovers in her home. She enjoyed traveling with Guy to Florida to spend time with family and friends. Sue was a talented and creative floral artist. She was also heavily involved in church activities and attended Shelby Street Lighthouse church. She had a heart for the elderly. She obtained her Activities Director Certification and ran a nursing home ministry for many years. She kept an open door to anyone in need.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Dorothy Jean (O’Neal) Sterrett, brother Ray O’Neal, her daughter Jeanne Stahl and her son Jerry Smith.
