CARLA JO (DAVIS) STUBBS passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016, after a year and a half of courageous battle with lung cancer. She was born on August 14, 1938, in Decatur, Alabama to John Bernard and Georgia Loueda Hardeman Davis.
The Davis family moved to Atlanta in the early 1950s. She attended Joe Brown High School before transferring to Russell High School. She was married to Roy Lamar Stubbs of Tyrone, Georgia. During their lives together they had four children Rhonwyn (Ronne) Stubbs Bonds, John Stubbs, Mitchell Stubbs, and Nancy Stubbs Taylor. She suffered the unbearable pain of losing her son John at the age of three years old to a brain tumor. Jo and Lamar raised their family in College Park, Georgia. Jo suffered from a hereditary degenerative eye disease called Retinitis Pigmentosa which rendered her legally blind in her early thirties. She continued to be active in her community including being the Softball Commissioner for The Old National Athletic Association. She and her husband retired to East Point, Florida until his death in 1993. She moved to Coweta County, Georgia in 1999 and resided there until her death. Jo Stubbs was a woman of warm heart, quick wit, and good humor and was devoted to her family. She helped raise many other children as well. Always stepping in to offer a roof, clothes, and food to others in need. There are many people who count Jo Stubbs as their “second mother” including Bill Sims, Pam Mitchell Mason, Trent Mitchell, Lisa Mitchell Anderson, Gary Gruber, Pam Miler Boone, Veronica Angell and Charva Stiggers Poole among others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, a sister Julia Eloise Johnson and her brother Kenneth Dale Davis. She is survived by her three children Ronne (Mike) Bonds, Mitchell Stubbs and Nancy (Darrin) Taylor, her grandchildren Alex (Kerron) Bonds, Justin (Dixie) Bonds, Kera Thompson (Stacey) Lane, Nicholas Thompson and Amanda Taylor (Jeremy) Born. Seven Great Grandchildren; Seth Bonds, Sara Bonds, Brooke Lane, Gannon Bonds, Grayson Bonds, Hayleigh Born, and Levi Born. Her sister Patricia Davis (Lewis) Carter and Sister in Law Diane Davis (Bill) Howell. Nieces and Nephews Michael Carter, Jodi Carter (Warren, Jr.) Bond, John (Robyn) Davis, Chris Davis and Kimberly Davis (Tracy) Greene. Grand Nieces and Grand Nephews Kendale Davis, Luke Bell, Whitney Bell Andres, Zach Greene, and Hannah Greene. And a host of many very dear friends. Mom, Mother, sis, Jo, Carla, Aunt Jo, Bobo, Mama Jo, Carla Jo, Miss Jo were some of the many names she answered to.
