Carla Jo Ruh, 86, of Phoenix, AZ, and formerly of Jacksonville, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

She was born Oct. 14, 1930, in Kilbourne, the daughter of Harry and LaBelle (Vannier) Merriman. She married Leland L. Ruh on Mar. 17, 1952, in Jacksonville and he preceded her in death on July 25, 2003.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet (husband Peter James) Rafferty of Springfield; her son, Paul (wife Linda) Ruh of Castle Pines, CO; four grandchildren, P.J. Rafferty and Amy Rafferty, both of Springfield, Rebecca Ruh of Chile, and Benjamin Ruh of Phoenix, AZ; and two great grandchildren, Jordan Rafferty and Samantha Rafferty, both of Springfield. She was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Merriman.

Mrs. Ruh graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1949, and from Passavant School of Nursing in 1952. She had worked at Passavant Area Hospital and then for Doctors Alfred and George Schultz for 30 years. She was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville. While living in Arizona, she volunteered for Hospice in the Inpatient Unit of Sun City Health Hospice.

She also served as the Chairman of Quilts for Kids for many years at Sunflower Resort in Surprise, AZ, and their group of seniors have made and donated thousands of quilts for needy children in the Greater Phoenix area. She also had donated quilts to various Veterans’ groups.
