Carl Wayne Larew Sr, 68, of Marquess passed away on Friday, August 28, 2015 at Preston Memorial Hospital with family by his side. He was born December 18, 1946, in Marquess, the son of the late Garnar Edwin and Dorothy Stone Larew. Carl graduated from Fellowsville High School, Toledo School of Meat Cutting, Potomac State College and West Virginia University. He taught agricultural education in Preston County Schools for 32 years before retiring in 2004 including at Valley High School in Masontown and the Preston County Educational Center/Preston High School in Kingwood. During his career, he established an animal processing facility to teach students about meat science and retail meat cutting. This innovative program was a model for similar programs throughout WV and nationally. His students earned many awards and scholarships including American FFA Degrees and Livestock Judging Championships. He also organized Young Adult Farmers meetings and field trips to provide agricultural training to Preston County’s farmers. In 1978, he was named WV Vocational Agriculture Teacher of the Year. He also received the Honorary State FFA Degree from the WV FFA Association and numerous Chapter FFA degrees locally. Carl owned and operated a successful family farm. He established one of the first commercial Limousin herds in the area, and was an early adopter of embryo transfer and other technologies to improve livestock production. He mentored many local livestock producers. He is survived by Lalah Wolfe Larew, his wife of 47 years, his children: Alecia (Tim) Naugle, Lesley (Terry) Stonecipher, and Carl Wayne Larew, Jr (and companion Emily Grandusky); five grandchildren, Quinn and Cole Naugle, Jared, Carson, and Addison Stonecipher; two brothers, Lowell (Margie) Larew, Larry Larew, a sister Barbara Larew (Norman) Austin, fifteen nieces and nephews, a brother-in-law, Truman R Wolfe, and a sister-in-law, Rhonda Wolfe Jennings. He was preceded in death by a sister, Wilda Larew Bailey, two nephews, Lowell Thomas and Gregory Larew.
