Carl Wayne McGee, 83, of Kellogg, died on Sunday, April 10, 2022, at his home.
Carl, the son of Loren and Virginia (Atwood) McGee, was born on May 24, 1938 in Iowa City. He was a lifelong resident of Jasper County. At the age of 17, Carl joined the U.S. Navy and served his country for six years, four years active duty and two in the reserves.
Carl was a 50 year member of the Newton Lodge #59 AF & AM.
Carl also held several offices in the Moose Lodge; serving as Ritual Trustee, Governor, Jr. Past Governor, Deputy Supreme Governor, and President of Iowa Eastern Nebraska Association. He recently received the Pioneer Award from the Moose Lodge. Carl was also a member of the American Legion Post 111 and loved his good friends at the Legion that he would have drinks with on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Carl was an accomplished bowler and was a member of the Jasper County Bowling Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, woodworking, hunting, camping and racing stock cars. Carl loved his grandchildren and attending their activities.
Carl is survived by his children, Ronnie McGee of Des Moines, Rick (Sandy) McGee of Newton, and Rebecca (James) Harned of Newton; step-children, Mark DeKoning of Unionville, Missouri and Julie (John) Cummins of Newton; his 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; his sister, Carol (Bob) Boyer of Lakeland, Florida; half-brother, Jack McGee of Chicago, Illinois; his brother-in-law, LeRoy Cloyd of Ottumwa; and lifelong friend, Ralph Winchell. He was preceded in death by his father, Loren McGee; mother and step-father, Virginia and Max “Shorty” McDaniels; wife, Elizabeth McGee; son, Ray McGee; step-son, Scott DeKoning; granddaughter, Mandi Ehler-McGee; his siblings, Ted (Hazel) Sutton, Phyllis Seals, Anne Cloyd, Kay Harlow, Mike McDaniels, and Catherine McGee in infancy; and his half siblings, Alan McGee and Catherine Winbun.
