Carl Townsend Scholl, age 95, of DeMotte, IN passed away Friday, December 14, 2018 at his residence. Carl was born November 26, 1923 in Clark County, Indiana. He is the son of John C. and Martha (Townsend) Scholl. Carl served his country, in the Army, in Normandy during WWII. During that time, he received awards including: the American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, a good conduct medal, and a Victory Medal World War II. When he was 21, Carl married the love of his life, Katie Hawes, on September 15, 1945 in Sellersburg, IN. He retired from US Steel after 36 years as a crane operator. Carl was a member of the DeMotte United Methodist Church. In his spare time, he enjoyed farming and gardening and his hobbies were bowling, camping, and fishing with his family. Carl was also a little league umpire and coach for many years. Surviving along with his loving wife Katie, of 73 years, are his children: Stanly (Nancy) Scholl of Demotte, IN; Dennis Scholl of DeMotte, IN; Carla (Matt) Douglas of Houston, TX; 6 grandchildren: Dennis (Virginia) Scholl, Carl (Jamie)Scholl, Denise Nuttall, Stacy Scholl, Kaitlyn Staton (Colin Ray), Matthew Staton; 5 great-grandchildren: Christina, Ed, Shawn, Mark, Landen; and eight brothers & sisters. Carl was preceded in death by his parents; daughter-in-law: Judy Scholl; seven brothers & sisters.
