Mr.
Carl was born on May 9, 1936, in Ponca, NE, the son of Virgil and Lucille (Miille) Putman. He was baptized and confirmed in the Salem Lutheran Church in Ponca. Carl graduated from Ponca High School in 1953.
He attended Wayne State College for a year prior to entering the US Army on September 12, 1956. He earned his honorable discharge on September 11, 1958.
Following his time in the Army, Carl returned to begin his career with Great Plains Building Supplies in Iowa. He was transferred to Laurel, NE, where he met and on January 20, 1962, married Patricia Pat Maas at the Immanuel Lutheran Church.
In November of 1962, the family moved to Madison, NE. He continued working for Great Plains until he took a position at the Joyce-Fullerton Lumber Company in Norfolk. Later, he worked for Nordby Construction and then Menards in Norfolk. He retired from Menards in 2003.
Carl had a life-long passion for baseball. He played baseball and softball. Some of the teams he played on include American Family, K-Sports and Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison. When he could no longer actively play, Carl began his career as an umpire in the Norfolk Softball Association.
Carl is survived by his children and their spousesJana and Bryan Markes, of Pierce, Jay and Coille Putman, of Omaha, and Jerry Putman of Palatine, IL; three grandchildrenGarrett, Leah and Evan Putman, all of Omaha; one sister, Connie Fincher, of Southaven, MS.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 46 years, Patricia and one brother, John Putman.
