Carl O. Pullen, 73, of 999 Whalley Ave., New Haven passed away Sept. 30, 2011 in The CT. Hospice, Branford. He was the husband of Linda Jennette Pullen. Mr. Pullen was born in Roanoke, VA.Oct. 16, 1937, son of the late Carl W. and Ruby Dorothea Turner Pullen. Mr. Pullen was a member of the New Haven Police Dept. for 16 years, retiring as a detective in 1978. He later served as an investigator for the Conn. State Police, a sergeant in the CT. Dept. of Special Revenue, and worked for the Hamden Board of Education where he was JV Head Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach for Hamden High basketball. He served for three years in the United States Marine Corps. He earned a master’s degree from the University of Bridgeport. Besides his wife, he is survived by four sons, Jonathan Walker of Boston, Dr. Carl R. Pullen of Philadelphia, Glen Scott Pullen and Terrance (Valerie) Pullen, both of West Haven; two daughters, Tina Pullen of West Haven and Dina Pullen of Philadelphia; one brother, Rev. Augustus “Butch” (Michelle) Pullen of Hamden; five sisters, Martha (Roger) Everson and Jessie Kennedy, both of Hamden, Jimmie (Serge) Reynolds and Rubye “Jackie” (Ret. Fire Chief Dennis) Daniels, both of New Haven and Beulah Codrington of Atlanta; 19 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by a son, Paul Pullen and a daughter, Jillian D. Pullen.
