Carl K. McCartney Jr., 77, of Salem, died at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at the Cleveland Clinic. He was born July 8, 1936 in Salem, son of Carl K. Sr. and Florence Stark McCartney. Before his retirement in 1996, he had worked at Eljer Company as a tub enamelar for 42 years. He was a 1954 graduate of Goshen High School and a member of the Community Bible Church in Westville. Carl enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, and bird watching especially watching the purple martins. His wife, Marilyn (Headland) McCartney, whom he married September 18, 1955 survives him along with a son, Jerry (Kathleen) McCartney of Salem; a daughter, Renae Unkefer of Columbiana; daughter-in-law Beth McCartney of Lisbon; a brother, Glenn (Carla) McCartney of Beloit; eight grandchildren, Jeff, Ashley, Cinda, Ann, Todd, Megan, Brooke and Krista; and four great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Michael, Rosa, and Cam. A son, Michael L. McCartney and two brothers, Ralph and Donny McCartney also preceded him in death.
