Carl G. Owings, 79, of upstate New York, passed away January 18, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Troy, New York. Born August 9, 1936 in Carroll County, he was the son of the late Guy and Hazel Gesell Owings .
Carl left home at age 17 after graduating from Westminster High School to go to New York City. He graduated from the New York School of Design, after which he was employed by The Plaza Hotel. Soon after, he along with a partner opened a florist shop at the Sherry Netherland Hotel.
He is survived by sisters Phyllis Menchey, Fay Owings, Gayle Shanaberger and husband Scott all of Westminster, sisters-in-law Carolyn Owings of Hampstead and Becky Owings of Westminster,12 nieces and nephews, Bruce Menchey, Jackie Waddell, Robyn McGrew, Michelle Menchey, Carole Lee Hoover, Kim Anderson, Brad Owings, Minnie Lathe, Steve Owings, Terry Jerome , Guy Shanaberger and Zachary Shanaberger . Also survived by 17 great and 4 great, great nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by brothers Neal Nelson Owings and Wayne (Butch) Bradford Owings.
