Carl Francis Lemley, age 70, of Deerfield Ave., Spring Hills Community, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, September 16, 2013, at his residence, surrounded by his family. He was born in Van Meter, PA, April 6, 1943, a son of the late Albert Raymond Lemley and Ethel Pearl (Grubb) Lemley. His wife, Gloria Jean (Mettille) survives. They were united in marriage February 27, 1965.
Mr. Lemley was a 1961 graduate of Rostraver High School in PA, he was a US Army Veteran, having served in the Vietnam War from 1961-1964, reaching the rank of Spec 5. He attended the US Army training center in 1962 and was named honor graduate of the clerical school/special training regimen. While in the US Army he studied accounting at the University of Delaware. He was employed with Republic Steel Banning Coal Mine of West Newton PA from 1964 to 1975. In 1975 he transferred from West Newton, PA to Sentinel Coal mine in Philippi, WV, which changed hands numerous times from 1975-2009 when he retired. Carl was also a Notary Public since 1977. He coached Little League baseball for several years while residing in PA. He played shortstop for the Blueville Church of the Nazarene softball team, where he was a member for many years. He was also a member of the American Legion Taylor County Post #12.
In addition to his wife he is survived by: two sons, Edward C. Lemley and wife Melba (Fox), of Providence Forge, VA, and Anthony W. Lemley and wife Shanalyn (Riley), of Thornton, WV; five grandchildren, Amanda Lemley, Christopher Lemley, Jessica Lemley, Rachael Barlow, and Scott Anthony Marks and wife Jenn; three great grandchildren, Ashton Lemley, Natalie Canfield, and Gabriel Canfield; five siblings, Lorraine Quinter and husband Tom, James Lemley, Nina Valent and Joe, Patty Christner and husband Charles, Michael Lemley and wife Lana, all of Belle Vernon, PA; four sisters in law, Mary Daly, Theresa Smith and husband Dave, Dianne Kelly, and Jacqueline Thompson and husband Dan; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by: four sisters, Alberta Bittner, Mary LaSalle, Barbara Krasonic, and Betty Lemley; and four brothers, Robert, Glen, Leonard, and Donald Lemley.
