Carl E. Wakefield III, a resident of Burlington NC, passed away peacefully at Duke University Hospital on August 26, 2022 after a courageous battle with leukemia and lymphoma; he was 70 years old.
Carl was the oldest son to Carl Jr. and Kathryn Fulmer Wakefield of Guilford College North Carolina. He graduated from Western Guilford High School and started working in commercial glass installation. Later he served as a Quality Control Manager for Sauer, Inc, a military contractor.
Carl is survived by three children: Kristen Spears of Florida, Kathryn Wakefield of Louisiana and Joseph Wakefield of Louisiana. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 10 siblings: Marsha Baird (John), Kathryn LeFaivre (Jack), Sharon Alderman (Jim), Bonnie Warlick, Clif (Debbie), Carol Nagel (Paul), Michael, MaryAnn Whitehurst (Ralph), Debbie Minick (Mike), and John (Lori) along with numerous nieces, nephews, and his dearest companion Jean Martin Jones.
Gratitude from the family is extended to his oncologist Dr. Andrea Sitlinger, his transplant oncologist Dr Richard D. Lopez, as well as the team of nurses and staff at the clinic and Blood Cancer Unit at Duke University Hospital.
