Carl C. Cassel, 90, of Whitehall, formerly of Coopersburg, passed away on Sunday, May 30, 2021, at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Cedar Crest. Carl was born in Bethlehem on February 27, 1931, to the late Byron and Verletta (Hottel) Cassel. He graduated from Abington High School and Wheaton College (IL), and earned graduate degrees from Wheaton College, Faith Theological Seminary, and Princeton Theological Seminary. He was the husband of the late Charlene (Sorensen) Cassel, and they enjoyed 64 years together in marriage and ministry partnership prior to her death in 2018.

For over 60 years, Carl and Charlene taught, mentored, loved, served, and pastored people of all ages at Bible Fellowship Churches (BFC) in eastern Pennsylvania, from Paradise, to Coopersburg, to Hatfield, to Allentown, to Coopersburg (again), to Stroudsburg and back again finally to Calvary BFC, Coopersburg. In 1956, the first year of Victory Valley Camp, Zionsville, Carl served as camp director and then continued to serve on the VVC board for many years. Beginning in 1970, Carl served at Pinebrook Junior College (PJC), Coopersburg, investing in students as Academic Dean and Bible instructor, sharing his life-long love for learning about God’s Word and how we should live in God’s world. Carl was named President of PJC in 1984 and served in that position until he returned to pastoral work in 1992. He retired as full-time pastor in 2000 but filled interim preaching positions in Nazareth and Quakertown over several years. Carl considered it a privilege to serve, sharing his Godly wisdom with humility, on many boards and committees of the BFC.

After moving to Fellowship Community in Whitehall in 2015, Carl continued to serve and invest in others as a part-time chaplain.

Survivors: sons, David of Arlington, TX; Stephen and wife, Kathy of Coopersburg; and Nate and wife, Susie of Wheaton, IL and grandchildren Hannah, Jacob, Ellie, Karl, Olivia, Britta (Jake) Krogh, and Lars. Also brother-in-law, Bruce Ellingson of Whitehall and sister-in-law Agnes Sorensen of Minneapolis, MN.
