Caren R. Gay, 76, of Elkhart, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Woodland Manor in Elkhart. She was born in Maywood, IL on January 20, 1944 to the late Raymond F. and Grace C. (Konigsfeld) Brust.
Caren is survived by her sons, Kirk (Katherine) Walquist of Prairie Grove, IL, Eric (Michelle) Walquist of Cary IL, Jeff (Veronica) Gay; daughters, Deidre Darabas of Hartford, CT, and Alicia (John) Scott; and grandchildren, Michelle and Jennifer LeBrun, Thomas and Christofer Dummer, Matthew and Katelyn Darabas, Melissa Walquist, and Cooper Gay. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 22 years, James E. “Jim” Gay, and by her parents.
Caren was a kind, sweet, and generous woman who went out of her way to put her family first and to take care and love them all unconditionally. She worked as a bookkeeper for many years in various local businesses and taught piano lessons as well. Caren was a past member of the Elkhart Elks Lodge 425 with her husband, Jim, whom she married in Winchester, VA on February 28, 1981. She was an avid golfer and loved to cook delicious meals for her family. Caren will always be remembered for her heart of gold and how proud she was of each one of her children; she was happy to watch them grow to become the best version of themselves. She will be missed greatly by her loving family and many friends.
