Captain Norman Kennedy Luther, 90, U.S.
Born October 29, 1926 in Nashville, Tennessee, Norman was preceded in death by his parents Elijah T. Luther and Margaret M. McCall, his brother Dr. Jerry Luther, and brother-in-law Dr. Howard Pomeroy

During WW II, Norman enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for 5 years. After his discharge, he studied at Peabody and Emory universities prior to his acceptance to the University of Tennessee School of Dentistry in Memphis, Tn.  After graduating 1st in his class in 1954, Norman practiced dentistry in Nashville before re-enlisting in the Navy in 1957. He spent the next 26 years as a dentist, and after completing a residency, an oral surgeon in the retirement, he settled in Florida with his wife, Joy. They moved into the Indian River Colony Club in 1990 and spent their retirement years as active members of the was known throughout the neighborhood as the “go to Mr fix-it” guy. An avid woodworker, he carved all of the street and golf course signs in the community and often constructed sets for the performances of the IRCC theater and music groups. He was also known for his beautiful bird carvings that he displayed in local art shows and gave as gifts to his friends. Norm was an excellent golfer and held the title of IRCC course champion for many years. A fierce competitor, he was still beating the socks off his fellow golfers well into his 80’s!

Norman is survived by his wife of 69 years, Evelyn Joy Luther, son Robert Kennedy (Wendy),  daughter, Candace (James), granddaughter Candace & her mother Lisa, brother Edward, sisterin laws Edna Pomeroy and Jan Luther and many dear friends in the IRCC community.
