Capt. Harold “Hal” Nord Jr passed away unexpectedly 07/20/19 at Viera Hospital. He was born 12/28/1928 in Manistee, MI; he was the son of Harold Nord Sr and Anna Nord.

 

Capt. Nord was a graduate of Manistee HS; Michigan State University (BA) 1950; and Emory Riddle University (MBA) 1993. He served his country in the USAF beginning 1950 in active duty and concluding as a reservist when he retired with the rank of Major. Captain Nord’s career as a pilot includes numerous citations and awards. He amassed over 33,000 hours of flight time without incident earning him the Orville and Wilbur Wright Award for excellence.

 

He belonged to numerous local, civic, and aviation groups. Some examples are the EAL Retired Pilots Association, Rotary Club and Quiet Birdman to name only a few. He flew into combat zones to bring soldiers home from Viet Nam during that war. As an Alaskan pilot he had an extraordinary history. During his career with Eastern Airlines he flew numerous aircraft from the Electra to the L1011. Captain Nord continued in retirement working in Presidential campaigns, civic events and aviation affairs. He is survived by his family: Fiance Audrey Spinney of Viera, Fl along with children Harold III in St Augustine, FL and Karen Nord in Santa Fe, NM.
