Calvin Smith, 73, of Lumberport was called to be with the Lord on Monday April 21, 2008 at United Hospital Center with his loved ones present. Calvin was born December 29, 1934 in Wheeling, WV, the son of the late Calvin J. Smith and Dorothy Meyers Hall. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Anna Mae Smith; one son Frank M. Smith and his wife Brenda J. of Fairmont; one daughter Brenda K. Satterfield and her husband Rick of Fairmont; five grandchildren, Amy, Cassie “Hop Toad” and Sarah Smith, and Jessica “Firecracker” and Richard Satterfield, all of Fairmont, WV; one brother, Richard D. Smith “Lee” and his wife Pat of MO. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by one brother, Gary Howard Smith, a special uncle Blaine Smith, and beloved grandfather Frank Meyers. Calvin had a special love for the outdoors. He loved kayaking and paddled many rivers in West Virginia including Gauley and New River and other States. He enjoyed a special hunting and fishing trip to Canada with his brother. He loved gardening with his family and friends. He loved riding his four-wheeler with his special buddy “Pete.” Calvin was a graduate of West Fairmont, where he was a state wrestling champ. He graduated from Fairmont State College, where he was also a state wrestling champ. Calvin served in the United States Air Force. He retired from the Harrison Power Station as a technician. Calvin is survived by many special and loved friends, and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
