Calvin Lee Wilkins, 44, of Jacksonville, died Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, at Passavant Area Hospital.

He was born Sept. 1, 1963, in Clarksdale, MS., the son of J.W. and Queen Francher Wilkins.

He is survived by his mother of Milwaukee, WI.; seven sisters, Dorothy (husband, Robert) Pruitt of Jackson, MS., Otha Mae Davis of Memphis, TN., Odie Wilkins, Queen Wilkins and Polly Pulley, all of Jacksonville, Ruby (husband, Ghana) Smith of Milwaukee, and Clara Wilkins of Chicago; one brother, Anthony Wilkins of Chicago; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Henry Francher.

Mr. Wilkins was raised in Chicago where he picked up the love for baseball, winning many trophies and accolades throughout his grammar and high school years. He was a graduate of Martin Luther King High School. He worked for Pierson Auto Body and Turner Tree Service.

His dream of playing baseball was cut short by an eye injury, but that didn’t stop him from helping others the best that he could, from cutting grass to helping someone with groceries. He loved walking his nephews to school. He memorized every family members birthday, from great-nieces and nephews to cousins and sisters, and made sure to present them with a gift, but to his family his presence was the best gift money can’t buy. “We miss you, Coolness”.
