Calvin (Candi) Javier Gil, 25, was born in Boston, MA the eldest son of Claudio Rosa Gil and Julie Sheaves.  He was beloved by a large and extended family that included many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

As a child, Calvin was precocious, sensitive, and extremely intelligent, qualities that made him curious about the world around him, sparking a desire to learn as much as he could about it. He therefore excelled in his academics and earned a spot in the MIT MITES program for gifted youth, as well as the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. Calvin was a National Hispanic Scholar.  As a result, Cavin was accepted into prestigious undergraduate institutions: Duke University, Vanderbilt, Boston University, and Washington University in St. Louis.

Also, a gifted writer, Calvin served as the Editor-in-Chief of the North Shore Community College newspaper.  Always one with a heart for justice, Calvin’s proudest moment as an editor came when he exposed a pyramid scheme at the school, for which he and the paper were commended.

Cavin is predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Leyla Milagros Gil, and Ramon Rosa Rosario. He is survived by his father, mother, his sister, Vanessa Gil, his brother, Aaron Gil and his maternal grandparents, John and Dorothy Sheaves.

Calvin is remembered as a sweet and loving soul who bravely fought against the mental health illness he suffered.  Yet, the illness didn’t diminish his capacity for love, his tenderness toward family, his big heart, or his gentle spirit.  He will be missed by all. May he rest in peace.
