Calvin D. Petray
Calvin Dock Petray, 89, of Colorado Springs died peacefully on Saturday September 10th, 2022 at MacKenzie Place in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Calvin was born October 30th, 1932 in Poteau, Oklahoma to Dyer Franklin “Buster” and Gladys (Crenshaw) Petray. He and sister Sadie were raised primarily by their grandparents and attended school alongside similar aged aunts and uncles. In 1949 at the age of 17, Calvin enlisted in the United States Army.
Over the next twenty-five plus years Calvin served at various stations all over the United States, Europe, and Southeast Asia. He earned citations, commendations, and promotions throughout his military career culminating in a Bronze Star for his heroism in the Vietnam War. Calvin retired as a Chief Master Sergeant from the USAF in May of 1979.
He is survived by, Bernadette, his loving wife of sixty-four years, his son Patrick (Barbara) Petray, daughter Jannette (Timothy) Noonan, and son Richard and daughter Connie from a previous marriage. Calvin and Bernadette also enjoyed the company of their 4 grandchildren: Bradley (Heather) Hartman, Amanda Brown, Michelle Noonan, Claire Petray, and 3 great-grandchildren: Aspen Hartman, Carter Hartman, Amelia Petray, and several nieces and nephews.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Sadie Petray Brown and Virginia Petray, brother-in-law Julien Feuillade, sisters-in-law Julienne Soing and Nichole Roberts.
