Calvin B. Bruington, 88, of Jacksonville, IL died Thursday, July 31, 2014, at Heritage Health in Jacksonville.
He was born August 26, 1925 in Hardinsburg, KY, the son of Ben and Lena LeGrand Bruington. He married Mary Rageina Robbins on January 21, 1944 in Hardinsburg, KY and she survives.
He is also survived by five children, Edwin Bruington (wife, Donna) of Jacksonville, Betty Montgomery (husband, Bill) of Decatur, Jerry Bruington (wife, Joyce) of Jacksonville, Ritcha Bruington of Jacksonville, and Lola Rush (husband, Jim) of Spring Branch, TX; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a sister, Mary Morton Thompson of Fort Myers, FL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Margaret Haynes.
Mr. Bruington served with the US Army during WW II in Germany. A native of Kentucky, Calvin and his family were successful grain and livestock farmers in the Literberry area for over 60 years. He was well known for his whistling ability, his presence at auctions, and his positive attitude. Calvin never met a stranger and always enjoyed a good conversation with friends and neighbours, often entertaining his company with his ever-present southern Kentucky accent.
