Calvert Leroy “Bud” Fisher, the son of Charlotte (Detour) and Walter Fisher, was born April 5, 1924 at Guide Rock, Nebraska. He departed this life on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the Brodstone Memorial Nuckolls County Hospital in Superior, Nebraska at the age of 92 years, 3 months and 9 days.
A lifelong resident of the Guide Rock community, Bud received his formal education attending and graduating from the Guide Rock schools. A veteran of World War II, Bud enlisted in the United States Navy on April 16, 1943 and served his country in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. An excellent athlete, Bud played baseball, while in the Navy, on the Acorns 13 Enlisted Men’s Club which traveled around the islands to entertain the troops.. Bud was united in marriage with Donna “Snick” Ohmstede on August 28, 1946 at Guide Rock. This union was blessed with two daughters, Karen and Sandra.
Bud began his career as an apiarist, working in the bee business with his uncle, Albert Detour. He later took over the business and started Fisher Honey Company, which he operated until his retirement.
Bud was active in countless community and area organizations including the Guide Rock V.F.W. and American Legion, the Masonic Lodge A.F.&A.M., the Order of Eastern Star, the Tehama Shrine Temple, the Royal Order of Jesters and the Shrine Foot Patrol.
In his leisure time Bud enjoyed gardening, watching sports, playing pitch and getting together with their weekly “Friday Night Group.” He and Snick were also avid Nebraska football fans and enjoyed attending the Huskers games.
His enthusiasm and spirit was immeasurable and his endearing attitude was infectious to everyone who knew him. Bud especially cherished time spent with his family and was extremely proud of them all.
Preceding him in death were his parents, and a brother, Leo Fisher.
Left to treasure his memory are his wife, Donna “Snick” Fisher; daughters, Karen Atkins of Knoxville, Tennessee; Sandra Labertew and husband Stan of Sylvan Grove, Kansas; 6 grandchildren: Chris and Myra Atkins, Trey and Heather Atkins, Todd and Jacki Atkins, Brandon and Laura Labertew, Britney and Ron Tenbrink and Ben and Angie Labertew; 18 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
