Calista M. Hartman, age 77 of Polo, IL, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 at Presence St. Joseph Nursing Home in Freeport, IL. She was born May 11, 1942 to Lester and Celia (Rae) Rothermel (Polo). She married Daniel Hartman (Shannon) on July 14, 1963.
She was a 1960 graduate of Polo High School and went on to attend Nurses Training at FHN. She later graduated from Northern Illinois University. She put herself through college by raising miniature schnauzers. Calista operated C&L Foods (Restaurant & Bar) in Polo. She also raised Labrador Retrievers for nearly 40 years. She was an avid reader and helped her husband in the feed business. Most of all she loved her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Daniel of Polo; son, Daniel (Janell) Hartman, Jr. of Mt. Carroll, IL; daughter, Angela (Michael) Sheddan of Chadwick, IL; grandchildren, Gabrielle Sheddan, Danielle Sheddan, Alicia Sheddan, Daniel Hartman III, and Celia Hartman; brothers, Rae Rothermel of Rockford and Delmar (Vi) Rothermel of Shannon, IL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Celia (Rae) Rothermel; sister, Phyllis Ruter; brothers, Harlan, Allen and Darrell Rothermel.
