C. Sidney Zabel, of Brownstown, passed away peacefully at Covered Bridge Health Campus on the morning of November 8, 2020. He was 81 years old.
Sid entered this life on July 22, 1939 in Seymour, Indiana.
He was the first born to Carl and Alice (Freeman) Zabel and the oldest brother to Tom and Jim. Sid spent his entire life in Jackson County. He graduated from Brownstown Central High School. Then he attended Valparaiso University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business in 1961.
Sid was united in marriage to C. Ann (Miller) Zabel at St.
Sid was a devoted husband, loving father, and Grandpa.
He was a life-long member of St.
Sid started his career in education at Medora School Corporation. He then went on to teach at Vallonia Schools where he became the principal. From there he became the principal of Freetown Elementary School. He retired from the Brownstown School Corporation after 35 years of dedication to his students.
Sid leaves a legacy of love with his family. His wife Ann Zabel of Brownstown, IN; daughters: Amy Crosser and her husband Rob of New Albany, IN, and Julie Haimbach and her husband Chris of Madison, NJ; five grandchildren: Sydney and Allison Crosser, and Elle, Cora, and Carson Haimbach; brother: Jim Zabel and his wife Judy of Brownstown, IN; sister-in-law: Cathy Zabel; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Tom Zabel.
