C. June Portner Vickers, 80, of Jacksonville died Saturday, January 2, 2010, at Passavant Area Hospital.
She was born June 4, 1929, in Aurora, the daughter of Grover and Pauline Banbury Portner. She married James H. Vickers on May 3, 1952, in Aurora and he survives. She is also survived by two daughters, Christine K. Heisler (husb. James) of Las Vegas, NV, and Sheila B. Krupp (husb. Mike) of Laramie, WY; one son, Thomas J. Vickers (wife Marilyn) of Burnsville, MN; one grandson, Justin Heisler of Menands, NY; two sisters, Lois Carter of Byron Center, MI and Ferne Farwell of Jacksonville; and two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Portner of Franklin, IN and Mary Lou Portner of Jackson, MS. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Portner of Aurora and Clifford Portner of Jackson, MS; and three sisters, Marion Robinson of Jackson, MS, Marjorie I. Portner of Aurora and Ruth Keenan of Jackson, MS.
Mrs. Vickers graduated from West Aurora High School in 1947. Before moving to Jacksonville in 1958 she worked as a secretary at Thor Power Tools, Dietz Industrial, Aurora Public Library and the Copley Hospital Lab office. She then worked at Metropolitan Life in Jacksonville for 16 years, retiring in 1985. She enjoyed her family, flower beds, gardening and working crossword and jigsaw puzzles.
