C. Jane Reist Highfield, 75, Anderson, died August 5, 2005 at her residence after a brief illness which caused her to return prematurely with the First Presbyterian Tanzanian Mission Team.

She was born July 29, 1930 in Saginaw, Michigan, and resided in Anderson. Mrs. Highfield was a missionary in Tanzania, East Africa with her husband, Rod, who were called from 1963 to 1997 when she retired with Inland Africa Mission. During this time she served in various capacities, including Dean at Nassa Theological College. At the age of 50, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Anderson University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. She returned to the Mwanza Region in Tanzania in 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2005; serving as a volunteer for the Tanzania Children’s Rescue Center. Her joy was counseling the boys. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Anderson, serving in variuous lay positions, including Chair of Missions Committee, elder, choir member, Bible study leader, adult Sunday school teacher, and speaker at numerous women’s retreats. She served as a volunteer at the Wilson’s Boys and Girls Club of America from 2000 to 2005. She received the 2002 ?Service to Mankind? District Award from the Anderson Breakfast Sertoma Club.

She is survived by her three children, Randy & wife Betty Highfield of Indianapolis, Cheryl & husband Kurt Solomon of Wilkinson and Linda & husband James Everet of Anderson; a brother, Richard & wife Audrey Reist of Lansing, Michigan; thirteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Highfield was preceded in death by her husband, Roderick L. Highfield in 1989, her son, David Highfield who died suddenly in 1975, both of whom are buried in Kenya; her parents, Rollie & Mabel McCumsey Reist; and a brother, William Reist.
