Ronald Byron Voss was born to Ralph and Hazel Burgett Voss on July 12, 1925 and was an only child. He was born at his parent’s house on a farm west of Chariton. He was a member of the Norwood High School class of 1942 and graduated when he was sixteen. On December 18, 1945, he was united in marriage to Mary (Molly) Arminta Woodman. They made their home on a farm south of Oakley, and they spent sixty three years there until Molly went to the Chariton Nursing and Rehab Center and Byron moved to Autumn Park in 2008. Molly and Byron were blessed with four children.

He enjoyed restoring his antique cars and tractors. His cars and tractors were meticulously clean and most of the time when he was in the shed he was polishing or improving something with a motor. He and Molly enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and also playing cards with their card group. In their younger days they loved to dance and he recently told his son his favorite memory was “dancing with Molly”.

Byron was a good dad, and spent a lot of time trying to keep his kids on the “straight and narrow” path. He spent a lot of time purchasing and repairing cars when he had four teenagers driving. His kids all have memories of a fun childhood and a close knit family. He had his last birthday party when he celebrated his 90th birthday with his family and friends last July. He loved that day.

Byron passed away at the Chariton Legacy Lodge on April 1, 2016, at the age of ninety with his family by his side.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Molly; his parents and granddaughter, Stacy Hancock. He will deeply missed by his children, Donna (Roger) Hancock of Pella; Janice (Gary) Goering of Lucas; Ron (Debbie) Voss and Sam (Theresa) Voss all from Chariton. Also surviving are grandchildren, Becky (Matt) Kalas, Sean (Melissa) Goering, Ron (Tina) Voss, Ryan (Sarah) Hancock and TJ (Jennifer) Voss; great grandchildren, Grant Goering, Riley and Maddie Voss, Greta and Calvin Voss, and Beau, Archer, and Lincoln Hancock; sister-in-law, Donna DeBok; brother-in-law, Tommy (Carole) Woodman; and cousins, Betty Lenzine and Gene (Betty) Burgett.
