Byron Richey “Rick” Mahan Jr., 84, State College, formerly of Lewistown, PA and Anderson died May 2, 2007 at the Atrium at the Village at Penn State.

He was born April 6, 1923 in Washington, PA. He was a son of the late Byron Richey Mahan, Sr. and Jessie M. McClay Mahan. On December 18, 1948, he married Patricia Phillips, who died Oct. 3, 1994.

He attended Fordham University in the accelerated program during WWII. He served in the Army Air Corps as a Staff Sargent with the 13th Bomber Command Flight Maintenance Engineer for the B-24 Bomber. He flew over 40 missions. He was a tool maker for 40 years at Delco Remy. He was a member of East Lynn Christian Church and attended the Rhodes United Methodist Church in Lewistown, PA.

He was a Free and Accepted Mason in Indiana and member of the B-24 Flyers Club in Lewistown. Dedicated to his family, friends and job, he enjoyed sharing memories of good times gone by. He loved his children, grandchildren, dogs and spending time riding his Honda Gold Wing motorcycle.

Surviving are children: L. Elaine Mahan Weiner and Robert Phillips Mahan of State College. Three granddaughters: Sarah Schipp, Holly Schipp and Chloe Weiner. Two sisters: Mary Ann Howard of New Castle and Lois M. Phillips of Anderson. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
