BJ was born on December 14, 1949 in Rupert, Idaho to Raymond and Roma (Bywater) Jensen. He graduated from Minico High School in 1969 and received certifications as Mechanic and Electrician.
He married Marjorie Priest of Rupert in 1969 and they were later divorced.
