Glenn William “Buz” Morgenstern, Jr., 81, of Spring Branch, Texas, passed away on February 7, 2019.
Buz was born on October 6, 1937 in Pipe Creek, Texas to Ettie Eujenea Morgenstern and Glenn William Morgenstern, Sr. During his colorful and active life, he served in the Army Reserve, was a member of the San Antonio Police Department, and worked in numerous other career fields.
His love of Rodeo began in the early 1960’s with bareback riding which led him to his lifelong dedication to bullfighting and clowning. Known as “The Texas Buzzard” (the origin of his nickname), he clowned in rodeos all over Texas and the Southwest. Designing many comical devices to entertain audiences of all ages, Buz was known for creating such clown acts as “The Atom Smasher”, “The Spinning Funny Car”, “The Sock It To Me Bull Barrel” and most recently “The Hootchie Pod” which he drove in local parades with his miniature donkey, Cowboy, to entertain children and adults alike. Within the last few years, Buz was very proud to have been inducted into the South Central Texas Rodeo Connection Ring of Honor. With his performances and shared wisdom spanning over six decades, Buz was widely recognized as a part of the heritage and tradition of Texas rodeo.
Buz was also a very talented leather tooling artist. His many beautiful works were mostly given as gifts his to family and friends, but also included guitar and banjo straps custom designed for legendary country music star Roy Clark. In addition, Buz enjoyed making original southwestern-inspired metal and beaded jewelry.
Buz is survived by his two children, Jene Marie Bullock and Glenn William “Buggs” Morgenstern, lll (Crystal); his two granddaughters, Anjelica Maye Bullock and Tricia Faye Morgenstern; and his sister, Linda James.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Dennis Luton for his thoughtful offer to perform Buz’s eulogy, Pat Godkins of A Doggie 4 You Dog Rescue and Adoption, who was a lifelong friend of Buz and his family and who so kindly offered to foster and find forever homes for Buz’s two dogs, and Tejas Rodeo for allowing the family to honor his life in a venue he loved.
