Bunny E. Steinmetz, 72, passed away Friday, April 1, 2022 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston with her loving husband and family by her side.

Born on September 21st, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa, Bunny was the youngest daughter of Joseph and Ruth Grimes. She grew up in Des Moines, Iowa with her three sisters Leslie, Allyson, and Debbie. Several childhood summers were spent at her family’s Pine Knoll Lodge resort on Cass Lake in Pennington, Minnesota where she spent time fishing with her sisters and father. Bunny was a cheerleader at Johnston High School in Johnston, Iowa. Upon graduating, she studied at University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls and Grand View College in Des Moines.

Bunny was a lover of music and possessed the natural ability to play piano by ear. She also had a wonderful voice, and during her college years, she sang in a local rock band. Later, Bunny was employed by Hawkeye Bancorp as a manager for their item processing capture center. Bunny met Larry Steinmetz and they married in 1987 at the Church at Living History Farms in Urbandale, Iowa. Bunny’s most rewarding work was with BRAVE, a nonprofit organization. Later she went on to work part-time proctoring tests for NASDAQ and for local school districts. The Steinmetz’ cabin on Mud Hen Lake in Siren, Wisconsin was definitely Bunny’s favorite place to be. She loved kayaking, fishing, and enjoying evenings around the campfire.

Bunny is survived by her husband, Larry Steinmetz, and her sisters Debbie Alms (Steve) of Burnsville, MN, and Allyson Miles of Lenexa, Kansas. In addition, she leaves behind seven nieces and four nephews and her little feline companion Shadow who was constantly by her side. We take comfort in knowing Bunny is at peace, in the loving arms of her mother, father and sister Leslie.
