Alvin G. “Bud” Birdsell, 94, of Jacksonville, IL, died Friday, May 14, 2021, at Heritage Health in Jacksonville. He was born on Jan. 4, 1927, in Jacksonville, the son of Robert H. and Flossie Mason Birdsell. He married Neta B. Six on June 1, 1947, in Jacksonville, and she preceded him in death on May 13, 2016.

He is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Melvin) Black of Decatur and Marilyn Fricke of Jacksonville; four grandchildren, Jennifer (Shane) Davis of Mt. Zion, Jaclyn (Duane) Whitacre of Newark, OH, Melissa Daniels (fiancé David Beard) of Jacksonville, and Matthew (Dottie) Fricke of Jacksonville; ten great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Clarence E. Birdsell of Spring Hill, FL, and Bill (Nancy) Birdsell of Manassas, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one granddaughter, Allison McDaniel; and two brothers, Robert Birdsell (surviving wife Marilyn of Lacon) and Frank Birdsell (surviving wife Annabelle of Jacksonville).

Mr. Birdsell was a driver/salesman for Holsum Bread for many years. Later in life, he helped people with their lawn care. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy, a member of First Baptist Church, and a past member of Tri County Woodworkers, the Moose Lodge, AMVETS, and American Legion. Bud was an avid fisherman and loved spending time with his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
