SALEM – Bruce A. Capel, age 75, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, July 27, 2018. He was born on November 19, 1942 to the late Burt C. Capel and Hazel (Lottman) Capel of Salem.
Bruce was a 1960 graduate of Salem High School. He married the love of his life, Charlotte (Wilhelm) Capel of East Palestine, OH on March 23, 1964. Bruce was a real estate broker, developer and builder, and owned and operated the Salem-based Bruce A. Capel & Assoc. Real Estate Agency for over 52 years. He had an exceeding pride in the community of Salem, and cherished living, working and raising his children as Salem Quakers. Bruce was a member of the Salem Golf Club, Salem Country Club, Elks Club, Independent Hose Club, Saxons, Eagles, and Italian American Club. He had a passion for youth, high school and college athletics and was a loyal supporter and generous booster of Salem Quaker athletics.
Above all, Bruce was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. His love and dedication to family has left a remarkable footprint for generations to come.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 54 years, Charlotte Capel; one daughter, Beth Barnett of Salem; two sons and daughter-in-laws, Brad (Carla) Capel of Barrington, IL and Burt (Kristin) Capel of Kingsport, TN; six grandchildren, Reegan Barnett, Ross Barnett, Sara Kate Capel, Andi Capel, Bruce Capel, and Benjamin Capel. He is also survived by two sisters, Betty Scott, and Shirley Kastenhuber, both of Salem; three brothers, Robert, Fred, and Jerry Capel, all of Salem.
Besides his parents, two brothers, Richard and Carl Capel, both of Salem and one sister, JoAnn Harrigan of Salem also preceded him in death.
