Brother James Edward Blaszak, C.S.C., age 77, died on December 5, 2021 at Memorial Hospital, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was born in Willis, Michigan on October 23, 1944, the son of Sylvester and Frances (Reno) Blaszak. He attended Immaculate Conception Elementary school in Milan, Michigan and graduated from Monroe Catholic Central High School in Monroe, Michigan in 1963. He was influenced by the Brothers at the high school and entered the Congregation of Holy Cross as a brother in 1963. He pronounced his first vows in 1964, taking final vows in 1971. 

For the next 35 years, Brother James served the Congregation as either a cook and/or farmer in several places in northern Indiana: St. Joseph Novitiate, Rolling Prairie; Columba Hall at the University of Notre Dame, the Provincial House, Holy Cross Brothers Center in South Bend, Le Man Academy in Rolling Prairie and, finally at Holy Cross Novitiate, Colorado Springs.  He was both assistant director and director of Silver Lake Farm, in Rolling Prairie from 1980-96. In 1996, he was appointed the Pastoral Associate of Sacred Heart Parish in La Porte, Indiana and remained there until 2012 when he was appointed to the staff at Holy Cross Novitiate where he died. Brother James is survived by a sister Maria and a brother Jerome.
