Brother Donald James Allen, C.S.C., age 96, died on September 17, 2022, at Dujarié House, in Holy Cross Village, Notre Dame, IN. He was born in Chicago, IL on March 22, 1926, the son of Alfred and Cecilia (Brothers) Allen. He attended St. Joseph Elementary School in Wilmette, IL and graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, IL in 1944. He decided to join the Navy and spent most of the two years in the South Pacific serving as an aviation machinist mate. He took advantage of the GI Bill to attend Loyola University of Chicago, IL for a year and then studied at Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI where he graduated with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in zoology. He followed a calling to the religious life to join the Congregation of Holy Cross as a brother and entered Sacred Heart Juniorate at Watertown, WI in June 1950, pronouncing his first vows on August 16, 1951. A member of the Congregation of Holy Cross for 71 years, he spent over six decades working in schools in the States and overseas. He spent a total of fourteen years as a missionary in Bangladesh, Ghana and Liberia.  Brother Donald is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Muriel (Poore) and Joan (Lodge) and two brothers Richard-John and Bruce.  He is survived by two sisters Audrey (Hassenauer) and Carol (Gibilisco).
