Brian Edward Somers, age 46, passed away unexpectedly on Monday evening, February 8, 2016. He was born on May 22, 1969 in Owosso, MI, the son of Larry and Linda (Bohil) Somers. Brian graduated from Chesaning High School in 1987 and earned his BS/BA from Central Michigan University in 1992. While working his way through college he met Anne Cartier and on October 29, 1994 Brian and Anne were married in Maple Grove, MI.
In 1998, Brian and Anne moved to the Kalamazoo area and settled in as a family. Together they had three children, Seth, Tyler and Kaitlin. Brian worked for Gordon Food Service for 13 years as a district sales representative in the greater Kalamazoo area. Most recently, he was a licensed representative at the office of Andy McClish State Farm Insurance Agency in Portage. They are active parishioners of St. Margaret Catholic Church in Otsego. Known as “Coach Somers” to many, Brian was dedicated to coaching youth sports in the Parchment area: Brian was a Little League coach; served as VP of the Northwood Plainwell Little League; coached with the West Michigan Black Sox travel baseball team and coached Rocket Football in Parchment. Brian was a selfless man and instilled the importance of education to his own kids as well as all kids he coached. He always stressed a strong personal and team work ethic as both a father and a coach.
He was a very special person and will be missed by all who knew him. Brian was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John & Marguerite Bohil and his paternal grandfather, Ted Somers.
Surviving are his wife Anne and three children, Seth, Tyler and Kaitlin; mother and father, Linda (Bohil) Somers and Larry Somers, both from Oakley; brother, Michael (Daniel Snyder) Somers of Midland, sister, Amy (E.G.) Simmons of Ovid; father-in-law, Thomas Cartier of Howard City; brother-in-law Tom (Betty) Cartier of Ravenna; and six nephews, Joshua, Zackary, Lucas, Tommy, Cameron and Kaleb.
