Brewster Phillips Campbell, Jr. died at age 81 in the comfort of his home in Cocoa Beach on April 7, 2017 surrounded by family.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Fay, son Brewster III, daughter Sharon Campbell Knox, four grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Known to friends as Bruce, he was educated at Detroit Country Day School, Kenyon College, U. of Arizona, and UC Berkeley. Later in his career he enjoyed the opportunity for directed study at the London School of Economics under Professor Margot Light. On completing the US Army Language School Korean program, he was posted in Japan, where he acquired a taste for working overseas.
Following his marriage to Fay in 1962, Bruce embarked on a nearly 40-year career managing financial institutions in Malaysia, Taiwan, the Philippines, Denmark, Kenya and the Baltics, as well as Washington, DC. He retired in 1999 having served for the previous six years as the founding CEO and Managing Director of the Baltic-American Enterprise Fund.
An eighteen-year resident of Brevard County, Bruce was a life-long opera enthusiast and jazz aficionado. He enjoyed studying languages, doing crossword puzzles, and was an avid reader of histories, current affairs, and literature.
