Brenda Cozette (Ayers) Wheeler died peacefully on February 16, 2022. She was 78 years old. Born on November 9th, 1943, the youngest child of Otis Leon and Grace Lucille (nee Johnson) Ayers, Wheeler grew up in Atlanta, GA. She was the younger sister of musician O.L. Ayers.
During her senior year at Atlanta’s Murphy High School, she was co-captain of the cheer leading squad and a member of the drill team. This was also the year she met her future husband Milton E. Wheeler Sr. who passed in January of 2013. The two married in April of 1961 and had four sons, Milton E. Wheeler, Jr. (Jenny), Scott L. Wheeler (Angela), Brett A. Wheeler (Kathy), and Brad E. Wheeler M.D. (Lori), 19 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
In 1970, Wheeler relocated with her family to Des Moines, Iowa, the birthplace of her husband, and worked for the state of Iowa for nearly 20 years. She also co-owned Hiland Park Hardware with her husband.
She loved music and was an amateur singer, an avid reader, and later in life devoted much of her time to studying Scripture.
