Brenda K. Vasquez, 74, of Deming, NM was called by our heavenly God on May 18, 2016, after a long battle with lung cancer.

She was born on August 18, 1941 in Johnson City, Tennessee to the late Hayden McKinney and Geneva Griffith McKinney. She was pre-deceased by a son, Arturo Vasquez Jr.; sisters, Joanne McKinney and Iris McKinney Brooks. She is survived by her husband, Arturo Vasquez Sr. of Deming; sons, Andres, Samuel and David of Orange, CA and son, Paul of Oxnard, CA; daughter-in-law, Marrisa and grandchildren, Kevin and Katelyn Vasquez of Pasadena, TX; sister, Sharron Peterson of Baltimore, MD and brother, Darrell McKinney of Ashland, VA. She will be missed dearly by many in-laws, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Brenda and Arturo met at the bus depot in Memphis, TN while reporting to naval aviation technical schools in Millington, TN in October 1960, were married September 15, 1962 in Newbern, NC at St. Paul’s Catholic Church while she was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, Havelock, NC.

After crisscrossing the country a few times they settled in Orange, CA and raised the boys. She was always active and very loving in her sons’ lives. After 27 years in Orange they retired and came to Deming in 2003. While in Deming, she made many friends with the church and community. She was also the proud owner of the Enchanted Tea House here in Deming.
