Brenda Phyetta Howell was born on Wednesday, June 21, 1939, to Lillian M. (McCloud) and Creed D. Howell in Los Angeles. Brenda later moved with her parents and her brother Gary to Denver, Colorado when she was three years old. They moved to the 2500 block of Glenarm Place and really for the last 70 years never left the neighborhood. Growing up in Denver, Brenda attended Boettcher School, Morey Junior High School and graduated from Manual High School in 1958. In school, Brenda participated in many of the club and extra-curricular activities. After high school, Brenda went to work at National Jewish Hospital as a clerk-typist. Later when an opportunity arose, she was offered an administrative position at the Western Electric Company. The company later merged to become the American Telephone and Telegraph Company (AT&T). Brenda was employed with AT&T for over 25 years before retiring in the early 90’s. During her time at AT&T, Brenda received many accolades and awards for her work. Growing up in Denver, Brenda participated in many of the activities sponsored by the early social clubs, such as, the Novelettes, the Syrian Temple 49 Potentate’s Ball, and the Bronze Daughters of America. She was always asked to be a contestant in the Kappa Omega Chi Chapter of Alpha Chi Pi Omega Sorority of Professional Beauticians Annual Hair Style Show. She is fondly remembered for her great smile that everyone always talked about which graces many of the photographs in the family home. In the early 60’s, Brenda married Floyd Morgan.
