Brenda J. Bombard-Kiefer, 52 of Freeport died Tuesday, June 26, 2007, at FHN Memorial Hospital after a courageous 2 1/2 year battle with cancer. Born September 22, 1954, in Rockford, IL she was the daughter of Joe and Shirley (Fisher) Bombard.
On September 5, 1981, she married Jerry Kiefer in Freeport. Brenda was the Executive Director for Sojourn House and was Sojourn House’s representative to the United Way for both Stephenson and JoDaviess Counties 708 Board, she was a master addiction counselor for the NAADAC, and she was on the IIADA board of directors from 1994 to 2006, JoDaviess County Alcohol and other substance Coalition, Stephenson and JoDaviess County local area social services network, a member of the former Freeport Weed and Seed program and Freeport Drug and Alcohol Commission, a member of Contact, and served on it’s Board of Directors and was a past board president. She also was the recipient of the Carthage College Award for Outstanding Alumni. Brenda was a member of Faith United Methodist Church for 26 years and served as chairperson for the Finance and Staff Parish committees.
Surviving are her husband Jerry Kiefer of Freeport; her mother Shirley Bombard of Rockford; one daughter, Emily Kiefer of Freeport; one stepson, Jay (Michele) Kiefer of Madison, WI; one brother, Dan (LuAnn) Bombard of Batavia; one sister, Julie (Doug Bruno) Bombard of Rockford; two nieces, Rebecca and Sarah Bombard of Batavia and one granddaughter, Olivia Kiefer of Madison, WI.
She was preceded in death by her father. Cremation rites have been accorded.
