Boyd Douglas Minnick, the son of Evelyn L. (Winz) and Ralph D. Minnick, was born June 28, 1952 at Red Cloud, Nebraska. He departed this life on Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Mary Lanning Healthcare in Hastings, Nebraska at the age of 65 years, 2 months and 26 days.
A lifelong resident of the area, Boyd grew up in the Riverton community and received his formal education attending the Riverton schools and graduated from the Franklin High School with the class of 1970. Boyd remained in the Riverton area where he worked with his father and was also employed in Hastings doing automotive repair work. He later moved to the Omaha area where he was employed as an over the road truck driver.
Boyd was united in marriage with Janice Neve on February 18, 1978 at Hancock, Iowa. They continued to live in Omaha while he drove a truck and in 1979, they returned to Riverton while he worked driving a semi for Roseway Trucking Company. For a couple of years Boyd worked on the harvest crew traveling from Texas to Nebraska with his father and uncle, Duane Minnick. Remaining in Franklin county, Boyd worked on the farm for Steve Bartels and later with Mike Schurman. In 1998, he began 17 years of work with Siel Construction as a heavy equipment operator. Over the years Boyd pursued a number of odd jobs including mowing lawns, driving the school bus and doing some maintenance work.
In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He especially enjoyed horticulture, growing and nurturing a variety of plants.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Evelyn and Ralph Minnick and a daughter, Tanya.
Left to treasure his memory are his wife, Jan of Franklin, Nebraska; daughter, DaNay Minnick of Mission, Kansas; son, Sean Minnick and wife, Becca of Metropolis, Illinois; a brother, Richard Minnick and wife, Joyce, of Indianola, Nebraska; other relatives and many friends.
