Bonnie Lee Bate, 91, of Boise, ID passed away peacefully at home on February 4th, 2017.
Bonnie was born on January 1st, 1926, in Boise, ID to Edward and Clara Mae Wahl. She attended Pierce Park Elementary and graduated from Boise High School. At a young age, Bonnie lost her mother and took on the responsibility of raising her 3 siblings.
Bonnie’s career spanned many years, beginning in the Tea Room at the Mode, LTD in Boise. She went on to work at the Bureau of Reclamation where she met her future husband, Arnold L. Bate. They were married on January 1st, 1953. They both went on to work for, and retire from, the IRS, in Boise, ID, Ogden, UT and Fresno, CA.
After “retirement,” they bought and ran the Chalet Drive-In in Idaho City, where Bonnie’s cooking skills gained attention, beyond the acclaim of friends and family for whom she had prepared countless meals.
Bonnie is preceded in death by her husband, Arnold “Lynn” Bate, her parents, and her sister Maxine. She is survived by her brother James Mallory (Darla), her sister Naomi Currier, her children Phyllis (Larry) Abreu, Dianna (Mat) Ocampo, and Edward (Joan) Bate, 2 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
