Bonnie Jean Murphey, age 92, of Westminster, died September 5, 2015 at Ridge Overlook. Born November 20, 1922 in Tab, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Eva Fell Goodrich and Glenn D. Goodrich. She was the wife of the late Emmett Harold Murphey who died in 2005.
She was a 1940 graduate of Hoopeston (IL) High School and a 1944 graduate of Lake View Hospital School of Nursing. She was an Army Nurse and Veteran of WWII. She served in Hawaii where she cared for American soldiers and Japanese prisoners of war. Harold, her high school sweetheart, was also a WWII veteran having served in the Coast Guard. They were married in Danville (IL) on November 27, 1946 and enjoyed 58 years of marriage.
The family moved to Westminster in 1957 where they settled on a small farm. Bonnie returned to nursing in 1972 at Carroll Hospital where she worked as an RN in Pediatrics until her retirement in 1990. She enjoyed arts and crafts, quilting, working crossword puzzles, bingo, attending the Farmer’s Market, and spending time with and helping family and others in need. She attended many athletic events in support of three generations of athletes. Bonnie was a faithful volunteer and docent at the Carroll County Farm Museum from 2000 to 2008 where she led tours of the farmhouse for over 200 groups of school children. In later years she enjoyed attending the Westminster Senior Center.
Surviving are son Raymond Keith Murphey, sons and daughters-in-law Dennis and Rosemary Murphey and Darren and Amy Murphey; grandsons Michael Murphey, Keith J. Murphey and Ryan Murphey; granddaughters Erin Murphey and Sarah Murphey, great grandsons Koel Murphey, Peter Murphey, and Eric Murphey; and great- granddaughters Karleigh Murphey and Kaydin Murphey. Also surviving is a brother, Kenneth Goodrich. Son Harold Gene Murphey drowned in 1959 at the age of 8. She was also predeceased by siblings Helen Goodrick, Delores Adkins, and Alan Goodrich.
